Competent Person

What is a Competent Person?

A competent person is “one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.”

How do I become a Competent Person?

You can become a competent person by possessing the following:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience regarding scaffold erection and dismantling
  • Knowledge of other jobsite conditions that could affect the health and safety of fellow workers
  • Authority to correct or eliminate those hazards by your employer

Safway can help you achieve “Competent Person” status at your company by providing you with scaffold training. Safway Training University
