Safway Services, Inc. was called upon to be part of the movie set for the filming of the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster Spider-Man 3. The Cleveland Safway branch worked closely with Columbia Pictures to transform the city’s Euclid Avenue into the streets of Manhattan for two weeks.
Safway Sectional scaffold was utilized to make over the intersection of East 12th Street and Euclid Avenue into a New York City high-rise construction site. Safway frames were adorned with realistic graffiti-painted plywood and sign props advertising the soon-to-be built complex. Additional props included 200 lineal feet of Safway Systems™ Scaffold, which was erected under an existing canopy to simulate an actual building renovation. Columbia’s art directors chose Systems™ Scaffold for its versatility and appearance in order to achieve the desired set effects for the film.
The City of Cleveland was chosen because of its ability to provide a cost-effective set location similar to the one of the Spider-Man character’s hometown. The movie project which began on April 17, 2006 only took one week to complete. Look for the release of Spider-Man 3 to be hitting the movie theaters in spring 2007.
