The Federal OSHA Training Institute held part of its Principles of Scaffolding class at the Safway Harrisburg branch, which also provided equipment for the training. The branch was an ideal location for the class since it involved attendees from nearby states known as Region Three, which included Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, DC. Typically, OSHA training classes are held at the OSHA Training Institute in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
The three days of training were given for OSHA compliance officers and members from the Virginia State Department of Labor, and OSHA’s Consultation office. Our own Dale Lindemer, Safway National Engineering Manager-Product Application, and Ron Weinrich, Safway Trainer, conducted the class.
Training covered the OSHA Regulations for Scaffolds – Subpart L, which included sections on supported and suspended scaffolds, aerial lifts and training requirements, and basic load calculations.
In addition to the classroom training, hands-on instruction was also done, as individuals were put into six groups to build scaffolds. The training session began on April 11, 2006 at a local hotel with the hands-on portion hosted by the branch on April 12.
